VAL P
Val P is a contemporary painter whose work explores identity, recognition, and the relationship between the human body and the natural world. Her work disrupts familiar ideas of portraiture with floral motifs, challenging how we define and recognize one another. As a critique on surveillance and AI driven recognition, her work considers what happens when the most recognizable part of the body is altered.
Influenced by her Balkan heritage and the preservation of memory, Val’s practice has long been shaped by ideas of land, belonging, and resilience. After completing her MFA at the School of Visual Arts, she moved from New York City to the Midwest, where nature continues to inform her practice. Through layered impasto surfaces she creates paintings that explore identity in a changing cultural landscape.
